Healthy Running
When running during the summer there are a few things to keep in mind in order to stay healthy and injury free. Choosing the best time of day when to run is one of the most important. The best time to run is either early in the morning or later in the evening when the temperatures are lower and the sun is not quite as abrasive. Pre-hydration is vital when running during the warmer temperatures. Proper fitting shoes will allow your feet to be supported during activities. Incorporating a stretching routine in to your exercise program is also very important.
Some common ailments such as plantar fasciitis, sprained ankles and knee pain can some times be avoided by proper equipment and stretching before workouts. Although injuries are not preventable and if you exercise on a regular basis sometimes accidents may happen. The application of ice to a new injury for the first few days will help keep any swelling to a minimum. Rest from activity combined with ice will help keep a short healing time. If an injury persists for more that about a week; seeing a doctor should be your next step. The doctor should be able to advise you on how to get back from an injury and returned to your healthy lifestyle.
